Last year, the Victorian Government passed The Long Service Benefits Portability Act 2018. As a result, the Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme went into effect from 1st July, 2019.
The Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme allows workers in the community services, contract cleaning and security industries to accrue long service leave based on their length of service to their industry, regardless of their length of service to one employer. So, when an eligible worker moves on to a new employer in the same industry, they can retain their long service entitlements.
Established businesses in the community services, contract cleaning and security industries must register with the Portable Long Service Authority by 30th September 2019. New businesses must register within their first three months of establishment.
The Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme brings a range of new regulatory compliance obligations for employers in the community services, contract cleaning and security industries, such as filing quarterly reports. There are also new implications for employees.
